In the evening of Thursday 4th November 2021, as part of PMI® (The Project Management Institute – the global authority on project management PMI®), PMI® Tanzania and HEBO Group Company Limited through its consulting and professional training arm
HEBO Consult hosted an intriguing discussion regarding the impact of project management in the Natural Gas and renewable energy sector this was in partnership with The Association of Tanzania Oil and Gas Service Providers (ATOGS) which oversees the service providers in the renewable energy economy sector.
Tanzania is one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies, with an annual GDP growth of around 7% since 2000. Even though the pandemic may have slowed down the growth rate, the variation is insignificant. Tanzania has in the last decade explored and discovered significant reserves of natural gas, this has shifted the country’s trajectory and several mega projects have resulted from this.
Both Tanzania’s economic progress, and the country’s efforts to achieve upper-middle income status by 2025, has relied on the private sector participation and public sector support in project implementation, of which significant growth is visible in the near future especially in the area of renewal energy and natural gas.
During the forum, it became clear that as much as Tanzania is working on a number of projects, there are still not enough certified project managers available to manage them all. This creates an opportunity to improve quality of project management which determines the project’s success.
Furthermore, Bulla Boma Hekeno Director of Training at HEBO Consult added “Project Management ensures adequately comprehensive planning, open communication, proper risk management, clear stakeholders’ engagement across projects and strong execution and alignment”.
Moreover, George Asamani Who is the Business Development Leader for Africa at PMI® added “With the high importance of Project Management, PMI® has taken the initiative to assist project managers all around the world to get certified, especially within the African continent.”
Hon. Abdulsalman Abdulrahim, Chairman and founder of ATOGS shared with the conference attendees about the available opportunities within the projects in the sector. “It is important that local companies participate in the value chain of this sector and play their part in the growth of the renewable economy”
He further added, “I am happy to be part of this platform because we want delivery in all projects and the quality of the people managing them needs to be set high for all our benefit, we are also working to empower the youth at various levels to make sure they also feel included and gain the necessary skills to help them fully and effectively participate”.

The Strategic partnership between HEBO Consult and PMI Tanzania Chapter
On 2nd June 2021, the partnership embarked by PMI® Tanzania Chapter and HEBO Consults intended to up-skill project management professionals in Tanzania. This is accomplished by providing them with the knowledge and skills they need to not only become better project managers but also to qualify for globally recognized certifications such as the PMP® (Project Management Professional), the most widely recognized credential for project managers worldwide.
As a result, HEBO is now the only authorized training partner for PMI® in Tanzania. Since project management skills can be applied across a wide range of industries, including construction, manufacturing, and many others, a discussion about how it may revolutionize Tanzania’s economy has begun

The conference that took place on the 4th of November 2021, also known as “International Project Management day,” was a start to discuss how Project Management can benefit the growing Natural Gas and renewable energy sector in Tanzania, by strategic partnering up-skilling and delivering the best project management standards.
