The Vision Behind the Initiative:
The International Youth Day, celebrated annually, has been an echo chamber for youth-centric issues, and the theme this year, “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World,” provided the perfect fit for HEBO’s innovative initiative. HEBO’s goal was straightforward but profound: Mould a generation that combines project management prowess with sustainable practices. This synthesis would ensure the projects of tomorrow aren’t just successful, but also sustainable.
A Campaign that Resonated:
HEBO curated a well-crafted campaign to award fully funded scholarships worth over TZS 10,000,000, for the re-owned Project Management Fundamentals course to 10 deserving Youth who demonstrate a strong commitment to embracing project management skills for a sustainable future. This scholarship program which is fully funded by HEBO is a commitment to the organization’s way of giving back by promoting and growing a greener future through building the right skills for youth..
As the announcement went out for the scholarships, it was clear that the youth were hungry for such an opportunity. HEBO received applications that were a testament to the raw ambition and innovative ideas brewing in the minds of young individuals. Each application told a story, echoing a shared dream of a sustainable future.
Project Management Training for Building Sustainable Skills:
The scholarship recipients embarked on a transformative journey, diving deep into the nuances of project management, with sustainability as its beating heart. It wasn’t just about theories and methodologies. It was about making every project count towards a greener earth.
Hands-on sessions, insightful discussions, and collaborative exercises ensured participants left not just with knowledge but with a vision: To champion projects that prioritize the planet.
A carefully curated cohort of 15 university graduates (and soon to be graduates) from diverse backgrounds—ranging from chemical engineering to law, from IT to economics and planning—were given a roadmap. Not just any roadmap, but one that intricately wove the vast expanse of project management with the golden thread of sustainability.
The curriculum was meticulously designed. Participants began with the foundational blocks, understanding the essence of projects, discerning the pivotal role of a project manager, and then navigating through the project life cycle’s various phases from initiation to closure. They were led through the various stages, imbibing best practices at every juncture—be it initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, or of successfully closing a project.
The program expanded to elucidate the nuances between adaptive and predictive methodologies, clearly delineating between operations and projects. The training ventured deeper, touching upon the vital chords of project communications, stakeholder management, risk mitigation, and ensuring unwavering quality. In essence, it was a comprehensive deep-dive, introducing these upcoming project professionals to the vast universe of project management.
HEBO’s magnanimity extended beyond just imparting knowledge. They bequeathed these young minds with a treasure trove of resources from the revered PMI – encompassing course materials, instructional videos, and indispensable templates. All of this, with sustainability and benefit realization, firmly at the helm.
