According to Tanzania Employment Services Agency (TAESA), 800,000 – 1,000,000 students graduate each year the labor market can only absorb 150,000 of them. This shows a higher rate of unemployment among graduates and this is not common in most markets worldwide so we need to Bridging the career gap in project management
There is usually a spark of fear as a finalist approaches the end of the year’s final semester. The questions like ‘what’s next?’, how can I get a job? How will I differentiate myself in the job market? And what career path should I take to grow professionally? Linger around the student’s mind.
The COVID 19 pandemic has probably escalated these fears despite the negative impact it had. It has also brought about many opportunities throughout the world. The well-studied globalization is being experienced with the elimination of country borders thanks to the Internet making the world no more than a small village.
As a graduate or soon-be to graduating, there is a gap between a student’s qualification and the requirements to succeed on a job opportunity. To bridge that gap a student must be ready to self-improve by gaining additional knowledge, skills, and qualifications giving them a competitive advantage for the opportunity once it presents itself.
HEBO Consult with the Dar es Salaam University Marketing Association (DUMA) prepared a session to address this. With an attendance of 200 Graduates, postgraduates, undergraduates whereby the questions on how to build a career in project management were answered.
The Participants got to understand the right ways and tools to prepare for a career path in project management including the project management certification courses offered by HEBO consult. They also got to learn the road map of the career path from a project coordinator to PMO Director and CEO.
With the diversity in project management, it is key for all students to relate to how project management works in their fields. We jointly explored opportunities in marketing projects, Human resource projects, consulting, Finance, and Medical projects to cater to their area of specialization.
