If you ask me, I have failed several times that I can’t even remember how many; before understanding the concept of failure I always underwent mental and emotional breakdowns.
The Unlocked Dialogue on Project Management to Understanding the concept of failure in project management as something that is unavoidable is important. Project management is the process of leading a team to achieve goals and meet success criteria at a specified time.

Failing to pull off a project in terms of goals should not hinder us from managing and planning a project. This was the main outtake at the Let’s talk project failure, a fireside chat session.
The chat session coordinated by the PMI (Project Management Institute) Tanzania on the 3rd of September, 2020 at the Slipway Terrace in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The event was organized for the purpose of assisting and boosting the capacity of project managers and related professionals in Tanzania.

James Kopwe, The Chief Information Officer at TIGO addressing the project managers and stakeholders that were present said, “For a project to be successful it must consist of individuals who are ready to take their obligations”. He focused on the importance of having the right resources and the right plan on how those resources collaborate to achieving the project goals.

The unlocked dialogue on project management commenced were, The CRDB Bank project manager Mr. Subira Gudadi who is a project construction manager talking about his area of profession disclosed that; most construction project failures are not made known.
He laid out that in the construction of buildings a there is a number of times the project doesn’t go as planned and it is a physical exercise, they have to reconstruct a new building.
Subira who an expert in construction projects narrated a situation where they had to construct 5000 houses but managed to construct a fraction of the units and came to the realization that they ran out of funds and even the units constructed were of poor quality.
The unlocked dialogue on project management was for reviewing and examining the cause of their failure they realized that the team did not carry out their obligations as assigned. He advised that for a project to be successful then the acquisition of the right team composition and right resources is inevitable.

The Head of People’s Partnership Access Holdings, Ms. Maxine McKenzie-Kellie made it known that in recruiting people for jobs they fail to apply practically what they showcase in their curriculum vitae.
She advised that the education structure in Tanzania really needs to be updated and caught up to the current environment, currently it’s difficult to find competent individuals to plan and manage a project. Maxine concluded by saying that in today’s world that everything requires speed and creativity then our education structure needs to complement our environment.
The unlocked dialogue on project management, Keep in mind that for a project to be successful it needs to be well planned, secondly, the presence of a strong team that is ready to take on their responsibilities is a must and a clear vision of what desired achievements are needed is also important

One should remember that “Rome was not built in one day” and that no matter the circumstances then it should not lower our visions to carry out projects.
